Programs & Schedules
Schedules, in Reggio Emilia, Italy are much more open ended and flexible than we can offer here at Phoenix, as our community and culture is very different.
We do try our best to provide flexibility within each of our schedules and offer additional time, materials and opportunities for the children to continue investigative work without constant interruptions and transitions.
There are however, appointments that we must keep, such as lunch, rest, school beginnings and school endings.
7:30am - 9:00am
Welcome Parents and children into the Centre and free Exploration. Children are encouraged to choose activities ,teachers circulate between rooms, observing and guiding experiences. Snack is available; children are encouraged to eat, but not made to. Children are able to recognize when they are hungry thus encouraging self-regulation.

Preschool Group A Meeting. The children and teachers explore the possibilities of a project through conversation, debate and hands on activities. Through this dialogue our curriculum is born. Studio. An extension of the meeting, where children are given an opportunity to express thoughts and feelings through various mediums. Children are able to express new found knowledge through, drawing, painting, and sculpture. Our Atelerista will take a small group from both the junior and senior groups. Preschool Group B: Outdoor Exploration is an extension of the curriculum; the children test the endless possibilities of nature.

Re-visit. Reminisce about the morning experiences and negotiate further possibilities. Children participate in a music or story reading experience.

Lunch. The children eat, drink and make merry!
12:20pm - 12:30pm
Washroom. Children use the washroom and wash their hands and faces before entering the sleep room.
12:30pm - 2:30pm
Rest. An opportunity to relax and reflect.
2:30pm - 3:30pm
Wake-Up/Snack/Washroom/Free Exploration Snack is available: Children are encouraged to eat but not made to. Children are free to explore the environment, work in the studio or further explore project work.
3:30pm - 4:30pm
Outdoor Exploration. Extension of the curriculum, the children test the endless possibilities of nature. Children taken outside in small groups.
4:30pm - 4:45pm
Washroom Routine.
4:45pm - 5:20pm
Stories/Music. Stories and active songs. We re-visit the day’s events and informally plan for tomorrow.
5:20pm - 6:00pm
Third snack offered (if available)/Quiet activites such as drawing, books, and puzzles are encouraged to aid in smooth transition from acchool to home.
Please note outdoors times may vary depending on weather conditions. In warm weather we tend to stay outside longer, in colder weather we may limit our outdoor times Please note that outdoor times are adjusted according to the season, daylight saving time and weather conditions. In the warm weather we may stay outside longer and in the cold weather we may shorten our outdoor time due to cold temperatures and hours of daylight. Monday through Friday: Children spend time in the Studio with HaeNa our Atelerista.
If Children are unable to go outside due to inclement weather they will participate in indoor physical activities( in the classroom or in the back hallway) such as Ba Juan Jin, Wii Dance, Yoga, rainbow fun, active games and or music and movement. Please see posted list for all activities on bulletin Board.
Children who do not sleep during rest time will be provided with quiet activities.

Times and schedule are subject to change based on cues from children. FDK 2 children work with our Atelerista on Tuesdays from 4:00 - 5:00. FDK2 children participate in Multi sports with Quang every other Wednesday in the gym. Please note that outdoor times may vary due to weather conditions, changing of seasons, including daylight savings time, extreme cold during the winter months, and rain in the fall and spring and humidex warnings in the summer. If unable to go outside the children will participate in active group games from a lengthy list brainstormed by children in the program space or hallway.

Washroom/Wash hands prior to outdoor time. Children are able to use the washroom in a buddy system as needed.
4:30pm - 5:00pm
Outdoor Exploration. Our day’s activities include hockey, soccer, tennis or just plain hanging out with friends. Children may vote to continue with indoor activities, if so outdoor activities will be tabled for another day.
5:00pm - 5:45pm
Collaborative group or individual work. The children have the opportunity to work together with each other and with the teachers on projects they have developed. They are also free to choose individual activities such as homework or whatever else may interest them.

Group Games. The children may choose any active game from the lengthy list of games they have brainstormed.

Pick up.
The school age children work with our Atelerista on Wednesdays from 4:00 – 5:00.

If children are unable to go outside, gross motor activities will be conducted in the gym.
